Professor Dr. James Richard Crawford
Professor Dr. James Crawford, born in Australia in 1948, has been a professor of public international law at the University of Cambridge since 1992. Since 1997, he has also been director of the Lauterpacht Research Centre for International Law at Cambridge. He previously held chairs at the universities of Adelaide and Sydney; in Sydney he was Dean of the Legal Faculty from 1990 to 1992.

As an expert in public international law and international private law, constitutional law and maritime law, Professor Dr. Crawford has been involved in numerous international disputes as trial counsel, arbitrator and expert. He also acted many times as advisor or counsel for governments, including the United Kingdom, Hungary, Canada and Australia.

As one of the 34 members of the United Nation's International Law Commission, Professor Dr. Crawford has not only made significant contributions to the statutes of an international criminal court of justice, he is also special rapporteur for the area of state responsibility. Since 1993, he has also been a judge at the OECD's administrative tribunal.

Professor Dr. Crawford has authored a number of works on public international law, human rights issues, constitutional law and maritime law. He is senior editor of the British Yearbook of International Law.
